  5. institute was founded 1897 at Stoney Creek,
  6. Ontario, Canada, under the presidency of
  7. Adelaide Hoodless; the National Federation of
  8. Women's Institutes in the UK was founded
  9. 1915. The National Union of Townswomen's
  10. Guilds, founded 1929, is the urban
  11. equivalent. The WI is not associated with any
  12. religious faith or political party.
